5 simple ways to elevate your look

You don’t need to spend a great deal of time on your outfits to make yourself look pulled together and elegant. These 5 tips will transform your style in no time!

1. Tailoring

A well-fitting outfit is the secret to looking sophisticated. Unfortunately, living in the times of mass production means we have to contend with clothes from the rack. Find a good tailor and get clothing adjusted if you feel it’s too lose / too tight.

Tailored, non-baggy wardrobe items such as blazers, pencil skirts, cigarette pants and shift dresses will make you look sharp.

2. Pointy Shoes

Whether you prefer flats like me or heels, pointy shoes always elongate the leg. Plus they are timelessly elegant and you can wear them even if the rest of the world are prancing around in Mary Janes.

3. Stick to your signature look

I often hear people complaining they are stuck in a style rut and want to break out of their routine. While it’s important to try out new wardrobe items, it’s even more important to develop and keep a signature look that you can confidently fall back on. For Rebel, that’s denim and sneakers. For me, it’s the Corolla dress and pointy flats or kitten heels.

4. Wear all black

Yes this may be a bit somber, but Parisiennes and Audrey Hepburn wear black for a reason! Always chic. Always classy. You simply cannot do wrong in black, ankle-lengths skinnies, black turtleneck sweater and black ballet pumps. See Rebel in the feature picture above.

5. Maintain and look after your clothes, handbags and shoes

This may sound like a no brainer. Still, I see a lot of people who spend hundreds of pounds on a soft cashmere jumper, but ugly pilling balls can be seen when they wear it out and about.

With a few basic basic household tools you can maintain your wardrobe like new:

  • Fluff shaver / Lint remover – The fluff shaver is my weapon of choice to remove nasty pilling after wearing wool/cashmere. The lint remover deals with more superficial dust build-up.
  • Aloe Vera cream (not polish!) for shoes and bags: In much the same way as you care for your skin, shoes & handbags need nutrition too. Simply clean with a wet cloth and then moisturise the bag / shoes.
  • Iron/Steamer: A good iron and/or a steamer is a must to make your clothes look impeccable. A good steam iron will pay for itself by protecting the clothes fibres while ironing. The Philips GC9231 is a professional iron that makes tedious housework almost a pleasure!
  • Using wooden shoe trees for flats and regular cobbler visits will extend your shoes lifetime.

The Allure of the Eiffel Tower

Paris/ Rebel Alexa

It really is a magical feeling when you first lay eyes on the Eiffel Tower. If you do nothing else whilst in Paris, a trip to the tower is a must!

Last week in Paris, Romantique and I didn’t climb to the top of the tower, but visited the garden of Champ de Mars near the Ecole Militare. A relaxed way to see the Eiffel tower, strolling in the gardens, sitting on the bench taking in the view and jumping to take silly photos.

The allure of the Eiffel Tower is the best iconic photo shoot background you can have for your Paris photos. Have look at pictures of Audrey Hepburn, Sophia Loren, Romy Schneider or Catherine Deneuve with the masterpiece Eiffel Tower in the back.
