Romantique – styled by Rebel

When I visited Romantique in London 3 weeks ago, we did a wardrobe assessment and I ordered an injection of Rebel-ism to infuse some spice into her wardrobe. It’s easy to become stuck in style rut, choosing the same styles over and over again (in Romantique’s case: dresses, ruffles, puff sleeves, more ruffles and yet another Peter Pan collar thrown into the mix).

On first inspection of her wardrobe, we concluded that she’s lacking a few basics such as:

  1. A plain navy, black or red sweater, not too fitted
  2. A plain white Tee, not too fitted
  3. A pair of black skinny jeans by Topshop
  4. A pair of gold framed sunglasses (everyone should have two types of sunglasses: Plastic frames and metallic frames)

For our girly day out ahead of LFW, I rummaged in her cupboard to style her for the day. This is what I chose for her and why:

  • Pink brocade tulip skirt from Alberta Ferretti – Romantique is and always will be inclined to the romantic style. This dress is flattering to her figure and represents her style well
  • Black sweater by Paul Costello – The opulent embroidery of the pink skirt needs to be toned down with a simple but chic black jumper. No frills. No ruffles.
  • Pink aviator shades by Ray Ban – These iconic, slightly masculine sunglasses (borrowed from Mr Romantique) make for a great departure from Romantique’s usual plastic framed, tortoise cat eye sunnies. The matt gold frames and the pink tinted, mirrored glasses are a customised version
  • Pink cross body bag by Gharani Strok – Picking up the girly vibe with this pink, woven handbag, casually worn.
  • Leopard shoes – Flats are one of Romantique’s essentials. The pointy shape and leopard print give the classic a bit of an edge
  • Ruby Woo lipstick by MAC – Romantique never used to like bright, bold lipstick. Since I introduced her to the cult classic Ruby Woo, she’s embraced the cool effect a bold lip can have on her outfits

Brocade Skirt and Bows

Bags/ Skirts/ Wardrobe

Brocade Skirt London Streetstyle.png

Spring is in the air and I’m transitioning into the warmer season in Laduree colours: Fondant pink, nougat brown and baby blue.

If this pink brocade tulip skirt doesn’t scream romantic and girly, I don’t know what will. Rather than going for the ever popular blogger style of clashing girly with rough biker boots & studs, I decided to keep this look cutsy cute: A Bow white shirt is the perfect partner in crime for the embroidered tulip skirt. Delicate kitten heels in baby blue are the cherries on the top. The brown leather jacket provides a slight edge, but not too rock n’ roll! Now let summer commence!

I’m wearing:

  • Pink tulip skirt from Alberta Ferretti
  • Embroidered handbag from Dolce & Gabbana
  • Bow white shirt from Ralph Lauren
  • Pointy kitten heels from Logan
  • Leather jacket from Massimo Dutti
  • Pink Ballerina Earrings from Les Nereides

Thanks to Mummy Romantique and Rebel for lending this wonderful Dolce and Gabbana flower embossed handbag to me. It’s Romantique personified!
