“Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance.” – Coco Chanel. When I’m shopping and I see myself reaching for all those florals, ruffles and puffs, I remind myself of the 50/50 rule by Parisian style icon Ines de la Fressange: Buy 50 % basics and 50 % trendy or unique pieces.
My navy, faberge figured, egg shaped spring coat is one of those work horses and basic go-to-pieces I find myself coming back to when I need something uncomplicated to throw on over jeans or dresses. The three quarter length sleeves and stand up collar are feminine, timeless and desirable features in any spring / summer coat.
Egg-shaped, voluminous coats have been all over the catwalks FW2013 of Celina and Giambista Valli to name just a few. And this shape is not just a fleeting trend but a timeless and playful coat shape.
Voluminous coats are easy to wear, just remember to pair them with something skinny underneath. Fitted jeans, pencil skirts or mini skirts all work well.
Miranda Kerr is wearing a cute egg-shaped coat by Isbabel Marant 2012. Can this woman ever go wrong?

Max & Co, Max Mara’s little sister, is a great place for buying Italian timeless style minus the price tag of Max Mara
I’m wearing a navy and pink striped satin skirt by Max & co, boots “sprinkle” by Kurt Geiger, shades by Chloe and purple woven handbag by Patrick Cox.
