Street Style Denim

Denim/ Rebel Alexa/ Wardrobe

More than bags and shoes I have jeans in my closet. I guess that makes me a blue jeans babe. If I am really honest with myself, I don’t want to wear any other trousers.  I can’t explain it, but only in jeans I feel so relaxed and comfortable and full of self confidence. I never feel strange wearing them . According to Karl Lagerfeld, Jeans are the most important fashion invention. Let’s have a look at my different styles of jeans:

Well, that’s not all of my jeans, just a small selection but I hope you had fun and get a little inspiration for your daily jeans style. Should I launch a Denim Blog?

German Organic Apple Jam

Cuisine/ Rebel Alexa
At the tender age of 10, my boyfriend already produced his own organic, home-grown apple jam. The delicious apples can be found in his parents house and are called “Ruhm from Kirchwerder” – an old type of apple which has been evolved  near Hamburg. Even in Winter, he loved to eat home made apple jam for breakfast – so he took matters into his own hands and studied the back of jam sugar packages. In Germany, these jam sugar packs contain recipes on how to make home made jam with jam sugar, one of the main ingredients containing pectin. And this is how a tradition developed over thirty years ago.
Oddly enough, you cannot buy apple jam in the German supermarkets. One of the reasons why the jam is even more precious. Another reason is the special apple cultivar that goes into the jam, as it’s  rare and hard to get.
Here is a fool proof guide on how to make yummy, organic apple jam:
1. Buy 4 kg of organic apples from an organic farmer. Peel, quarter and core the apples to prepare them for the food machine.
2. Put the prepared apples through the food processor to turn them into a grated mash.
3. Next, mix the apples with jam sugar in a pot, bring it to the boil and let it boil for 4 minutes. Mix apples and sugar at a ratio of 1:1 – this will make it quite sweet but at the same time, it will last longer and will be preserved for 5 years. We suggest a mix of 1:2 or 1:3 and additionally some vanilla sugar or even cinnamon for the Christmas edition.
4. Rinse the jam jars with hot water before filling the jam into the jars.
5. Fill in the jam, put it upside down and let it cool.

What men think about 2012 fashion trends

Romantique/ Wardrobe

As women, we should wear whatever we like and feel comfortable in. However, I’m sure we all have been in a situation in which a partner made a questionable remark which made us rethink our outfit. In general, men seem to love anything feminine and don’t like us wearing anything masculine (think boyfriend blazer, pronounced shoulders, anything lose fitting).

Here’s  a list of my  favourite 2012  fashion trends and what Mr Romantique  thinks of them (as a typical boy, we can count him as being representative of a lot of men).

  • Peplum (above) : There is just no escape from peplums: Seen on dresses, pencil skirts, leather jackets in an array of different fabrics. Men’s opinion: Is this a dress for waitresses  so their skirt doesn’t get dirty? Errrr no! I love peplum and will definitely wear it this season.  The trick with peplums is to choose a figure hugging one, not one that stands out too much and could look comical.

  • Lace: Lace is delicate and feminine, of course it’s a favourite with men. I always make sure the lace is underlined, otherwise it can look like granny’s curtains quickly. My top is from Max & Co.

  • Peter Pan collar: Apparently, I look like a little French school boy when I wear peter pan collared tops. I happily ignore this odd comment, there’s nothing as girly as Peter Pan dresses and tops!

Cork wedges: How gorge are the above YSL cork shoes? Men asked whether I wanted to deck  my patio with the cork……boys really  have no clue!

  • Florals: Men love florals, saying they are “cute and feminine”. And they are right, you can never go wrong with a floral dress in a classic shape. The above pencil dress with floral print is from Dolce & gabbana SS 2012.

  • Monochrome dots: Whether it’s my black and white dotty silk scarf  or my 60s dotty shift dress from Max & Co, dots are Mr Romantique’s favourite. It’s not uncommon for him to ask when I will be   wearing the “dotty dress” again. Bingo, big graphic dots are a men’s favourite.

  • Baby doll shaped coat/dresses/tops: How cute is this Bon Ton / Baby doll coat from Stefanel AW 2012? I love the baby doll /empire shape with the raised waist line under the bust   and flowing skirt. It’s so girly and looks cute with cropped pants, pencil skirts, puffy skirts, jeans, the list goes on. Mr Romantique thinks it hides my figure and makes me look fat. Pffffft what does he know? I’m not missing out on this versatile classic, all I have to decide now is which colour to get! Navy, creme, camel or black?

Emma Stone Look a Like

Rebel Alexa

Emma Stone is 18 yeras younger than me and it’s a magnificent example to show that a classic und simple style is timeless and wearable in every age. Take the ensemble she wore arriving to The Late Show with David Letterman in New York this past June, for example. The actress was polished perfection in a Burberry Coat, Rag & Bone Skinny Jeans in Kensington, and Sergio Rossi patent pumps. Today, it was very easy to shoot her look because these chic combination I do have already since years in my repertoire. You just need 4 fashion basics: a trench, dark blue skinny jeans, a white shirt and black heels.

I WEAR for the Emma Stone look a like Fashion Style:

Burberry Trenchcoat, J Brand Skinny Jeans, white Shirt and black heels from Tk Maxx

Vogue’s Fashion Night Out London 2012

Current Affairs/ London

Every year, Vogue invites fashion lovers from all over the world to a shopping extravaganza. From Milan to London, from New York to Berlin: 19 countries are hosting the Fashion night outs, launched by Anna Wintour in 2009,  throughout August and September.

In London, the posh shopping mecca of Bond Street has been closed of and converted into a big street party: Designer shops have thrown their doors open for not only serious shoppers but fashion loving people.

Needless to say I popped along after work to soak up the atmosphere: Bond Street was awash with thousands of fashionistas (real ones and wannabes), bloggers, models , raconteurs and celebs. Enjoy the pictures I took tonight and make sure you check out your city’s fashion night out activities!

Above: Bond Street in Mayfair is the hub of the fashion night out in Central London: The crowd was spoiled with live music from open air stages, champagne in the shops, complimentary manicures and pedicures at guess, hair styling and much more!

The common sight of the evening: A photographer, SLR camera and models wearing outfits from quirky and stylish to questionable, as long as they were not boring!

The FNO Shirts were designed by Jonathan Saunders – you can buy them at many stands at FNO

No doubt, the most popular party took place at Mulberry: British Vogue Editor Alexandra Sulman co-hosted the super stylish party to launch this year’s Fashion’s Night Out event with Mulberry’s Creative Director Emma Hill. Early shoppers could grab goody bags!

Fashion lovers could also get their hair styled at the Hershesons hair station, with the famous 15-min-blowdry.

A pop up store of Hotel Chocolat served chocolate soup! What more does a girl’s heart desire?
Anna Wintour could not have ordered better weather for her FNO: A balmy late summer night provided the perfect setting to celebrate fashion
Naturally, a gelato cart was be parked outside the Missoni store all evening to supply friends and fans with tasty Italian treats.

Parka Jackets Looks

Coats/ Rebel Alexa/ Wardrobe

The sporting army green parka is an eternally popular look and a necessary year-round closet staple – e.g. my parka by Bogner is about 10 years old. You will be surprised how much a classic parka works because it’s a good length and works well with all different outfits and stylings!

I like to either wear my jeans and t-shirts for a really casual look but you can go glam so leopard print is perfect for that, it’s very bold and is definitely a strong look which is also my style. And while I just write about, I know what I can wear tomorrow: my Zara animal top and the parka on top plus red lipstick because the army green and nude lips make me very pale.

Boots, flats, canvas or heels work really well with this evergreen coat for a day time look and they’re perfect for running around town in or travelling around the world!

Wedding Guest – What to wear?

Love & Relationship/ Rebel Alexa

I love to be invited to weddings because it is not a dvd hollywood romance. In fact, you can experience that true romance still exists and people are afraid to say YES to each other!

For the bride, it is certainly a big deal to choose a wedding dress. Vera Wang said: “When I decided to get married at 40, I couldn’t find a dress with the modernity or sophistication I wanted. That’s when I saw the opportunity for a wedding gown business.” For most brides they imagine their wedding as a fairy tale… huge, beautiful and white.

And the wedding guests, what you wear? I decided to put my clothes as every day so I don’t feel dressed up. A beautiful and exceptional pants with a sleek, simple shirt replaces the eternal standard dress.

Earthy Striped Dress

Dresses/ Romantique/ Skirts/ Wardrobe

I love lazy Sunday afternoons and wearing something comfy and uncomplicated, like a knitted dress with A-Line skirt. The days are already getting cooler so you can just put a T-Shirt, long or short sleeved, under it.

My knitted dress is from knit expert Stefanel. Usually earthy colours don’t suit me, but I can get away with this dress as it’s cut out and  leaves plenty of skin near my face so the colours don’t overwhelm. Also putting a bright coloured T-Shirt underneath can mix up the colour scheme.

I’m wearing: Knitted dress by Stefanel, tan coloured leather jacket by Stefanel, kindergarten bag “Olivia” from Moschino, sun glasses from Chloe, pink glass ring from Kalk Bay, Cape Town

Same dress worn a few years ago on holiday: Picking up the earthy colours with leopard pretty ballerinas and a brown/beige bangle bought in Cape Town.
