Pregnancy doesn’t have to equal sartorial desert, swollen ankles and the “sexless” mummy look, as pregnant Kyra – writer, economist and my sister in law – shows us in these gorgeous pictures. How does she do it? Let’s find out in our exclusive interview.
R&R: Kyra, you are 8 months pregnant now and you look fantastic! You don’t look as if you’ve given in to the notorious pregnancy cravings! Have you been following a healthy pregnancy diet and consciously resisted the cheese cake / gherkin craving?
My diet (and appetite) radically changed pretty much as soon as I got pregnant – suddenly all I craved was fresh salads and the occasional gherkin. This was certainly a shift, considering I used to live on burgers and tacos!
To kick things off, give us 5 words to describe your experience of pregnancy:
Calm, sick! Happy, heavy, tired!
How would you describe your style and how have you maintained it during your pregnancy?
I’m not sure I have a “style”! I wish I did, but in terms of pregnancy, I stayed away from maternity clothes (except for the essential, maternity jeans!), and just bought nice oversized clothes that would work post pregnancy.
Did you go shopping for maternity wear? Do you have any shopping tips?
Not really! I had a couple of pairs of maternity jeans and some tights, then pretty much wore stuff that was oversized anyways. I wasn’t in love with the maternity wear! I would recommend shopping at COS, they have beautiful and baggy clothes that look great after the bump is gone!
Who is your style icon and why?
I love Jennifer Lawrence. She has such a healthy message about body image and fashion that I think we should all listen to!
What are your top 5 maternity style must-haves? Maternity skinny jeans (GAP), comfortable flats are all I can think of!
What is your current favourite wardrobe item? I am obsessed with my Cynthia Vincent flats!
What’s on your maternity and baby wish list? Pretty much anything from Stella McCartney kids.
What do you most look forward to teaching your child? To be calm and engage in the present moment always.
Kyra’s latest wardrobe staple buy: A warm, navy parka with fur hood from Isabel Marant. Stylish and warm to brace against the damp UK winter!
