Dolce & Gabbana’s new face Laetitia Casta on her beauty secrets

Beauty/ Icons/ Romantique

French Beauty Laetitia Casta is the face of Dolce and Gabbana’s perfume Pour Femme & Pour Homme. The beautiful commercial for the perfume, filmed in the village of Erice in Sicily, Italy, is focused on Italian heritage. The black and white video filmed by Mario Testino depicts beauty and elegance and includes the quintessential Italian ingredients: La familia, a wedding, food and achingly beautiful landscapes shots.

Laetitia Casta, born in the Mediterranean island of Corsica just off the Italian coasts, talks about her Mediterranean roots, the french touch and her beauty secrets (extract from the current French Glamour):

Laetitia Casta on…

being a a real epicurean.

LC: I eat everything. I’m wary of regimes and routines. On some days, I might smoke a cigarette or have a glass of wine from time to time.

being  lucky to have received the beauty by heritage.

LC: My mum taught me to take care of myself. In my family, everyone is impeccably groomed, for example they take care to have beautiful hair. My mum uses vinegar to make her hair shine and she taught me to do the same. Now it’s my turn and I’m showing my oldest daughter how to take care of herself.

loving sexy perfumes…

LC: I change my perfume every day. The sensual Dolce and Gabbana is not very heady, it has all the components I love in a perfume, it smells just like Sicily. I also love the creators Domenico and Stefano, they make me feel confident and are always a source of good advice.

skincare.

LC: I use pharmacy products to cleanse my skin and I hydrate the skin with fig oil. Like all people of the South, I know the dangers of the sun. To protect myself, I’m doing a siesta in the middle of the day and won’t go to the beach before 6pm.

keeping in shape.

LC: I don’t do sport, I have three children! To maintain my figure, I eat healthily and move around a lot.

playing with paradox..

Usually I use only little makeup. At the moment I like a more rocky, edgy  look with strong eye makeup and “Blue denim” nail varnish.

The “Figui+” skincare series from Oriental Lab contains fig oil. L’oreal blue nail varnish in “Blue Fashionista”

Celeb Beauty Secrets: Laetitia Casta

Beauty/ Romantique

French Supermodel and actress Laetitia Casta was born in Corsica and is known for her fresh-faced, natural beauty and simple elegance. Her beauty regime seems just like natural and non-fussy like the simpatico model.

Beauty routine: “I love everything natural. I use only water and soap for my face and organic products from Avene. Fresh air is very important for me. I love going for walks but I never forget to put on sunscreen as sun is poison for the skin”.

On beauty tricks: “I don’t have any! I drink lots of water and a glass of wine now and then. That gives me a nice cheek colour”.

On how to stay slim after 3 children: “Even if no one believes it, I eat what I like, even sweets and meat. I enjoy food and like the Japanese cuisine: Sushi, fish and lots of vegetables. Only once in my life dieted: When I was 12 I was teased for my curves. For three days I only ate salad with zero effect. Since then I have never limited myself again”.

On sports: “I don’t like sports. I don’t do jogging or gymnastics or anything like that. Looking after my children is enough workout”

How to relax: “Take a bath and light a scented candle … divine!”

What is Beauty for her: “Charm, intensity and generosity. Mysterious as the great love like Nastassja Kinski, Romy Schneider, Gena Rowlands and Anna Magnani, my favorite actress”.

On perfume: I spray perfume in the air and I walk through the cloud of droplets. I also spray in my hair. I love perfume! For me it’s a very sensual act that makes me feel to dress from head to toe.

Favourite Products: Almond Body milk with olive oil and sweet almond from Compagnie de Provence. Huile Prodigieuse D’Or from Nuxe. Lipstick Color Riche Star Secret 706, a soft pink. Face products from Avene.

Behind the myth: Nuxe’s Huile Prodigieuse d’Or

Beauty/ Romantique

A true cult, hyped-up beauty product is the mulit usage dryoil “Huile Prodigieuse d’Or from Parisian organic beauty giant Nuxe. Religious followers include supermodel Laetitia Casta who keeps her chestnut locks luscious by spraying the golden oil onto her hair, Penelope Cruz, Heidi Klum, Monica Belluci, Charlize Theron and Sarah Jessica Parker.

So far I’ve always resisted the urge to buy it as I thought it will be too oily, stain my clothes, stick to the skin. On holiday in Sardinia, I saw it in every pharmacy, hailed as “Francias No 1”. I finally gave in!

What can I say? I absolutely love it! My concerns were unfounded: I spritzed a bit on my  moisture starved legs and was pleased to notice that within seconds, the oil sank into the skin, leaving no marks on my clothes or hands.

The oil comes in two versions:
The “d’Or” oil contains tiny flecks of gold which looks great on tanned summer skin. The basic version is discreetly plain.

It’s also a great moisture source for thick, dry hair: My hair soaked up the oil within minutes (I used only a tiny bit on the ends).

My only niggle: I’m not too keen on the scent. I expected a sweet almond or coconut scent. Instead it’s a metallic scent which might be due to the fact that the oil comprises 94% natural ingredients. Overall, the benefits outweigh the (very weak!) scent.

The Brigitte Bardot Vichy Look

Blazer / Jackets/ Dresses/ Icons/ Romantique/ Shirts/ Skirts/ Wardrobe

I love wearing the French Vichy pattern (in the UK called Gingham) which gets it’s name from the French town of Vichy . The Vichy pattern is a checked pattern in the colours blue and red and their pastel cousins. For me, it represents a rural charm, fresh air, tousled hair and Brigitte Bardot, who made the look famous. She wore a classic powder pink dress on her wedding day to Jacques Charrier.

Above: I wear a Vichy checked jumpsuit from Max Mara (and, you would have guessed, Pretty Ballerinas). Below: Kepping it classic in white and pink (Gant shirt). Rebel wears a Vichy Blazer from TK Maxx. French Supermodel Laetitia Casta wearing a Vichy patterend dress.
