Monochrome Blue Sunday

Blazer / Jackets/ Denim/ Rebel/ Wardrobe

Monochrome dressing is nothing new.

Dressing in a single hue from top to bottom, especially with the recent predilection for vibrant pigments, is something to be strongly considered.  For the next coming weeks I will be doing Monochrome Days; picking a single colour and showing examples of off-the-runway and on-the-street outfits in an effort to inspire dressing around a single shade.

If you need sometimes a break from all the colorful clothes, floral, batik, stripes and animal pattern and you should focus more on minimalist looks with monochrome basics and start with the timeless colour blue.

I WEAR:

American Preppy

Romantique

…never dissappoints! No matter what trend other fashion retailers push, you can always rely on the classic, fresh East Coast look from GANT: Bright and pastel colours, gingham /Vichy /dots and marine stripes on Chinos, shift dresses, capri trousers and  skirts!

I’m wearing a quintessential Gant blouse with pink gingham checks and puff sleeves.

Above: Gingham Capri trousers from GANT SS 2012 collection. Sexy teamed with espadrilles wedges.

The GANT gingham Poplin dress SS 2012.

Timless cut dress and bold fresh colours – synonymous with Gant’s signature look

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication

Dresses/ Romantique/ Wardrobe

“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” noted Leonardo da Vinci and Coco Chanel famously said:

Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance.

Which is embodied in my silk shift dress in navy blue, with a round neck and a flattering tulip skirt (this suits any body shape) from Gant.

I love the American preppy chic (Tomny Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, Gant) and their no-nonsense approach to fashion. I can always rely on colourful shirts with pretty details, flattering classic dresses and timeless blazer / duffle coats.

Go Polka Dotty

Romantique/ Wardrobe

Clothing with dots can look fresh and trendy when done the right way, but beware; it can look frumpy and housewifey when done wrongly.  Always go for BIG dots; small dots, especially on black fabric, will make you age 10 years!

Kristin Davis and Cheryl Cole perfect the look on white fabric and with larger dots, although I personally think Cheryl’s shoes are dotty-overkill. Try not to overdo it. Plain coloured shoes would have looked better with this cute dress!

I am wearing a dark brown blouse with large cream dots.

Great cardigan in navy from Gant’s current cruise collection. www.gantuk.co.uk
