I don’t like the cold winter months but I love Christmas time in Germany, it is simply MAGIC! Between the end of November and end of December, the whole of Germany is glistening in sparkling light shows in over 1,200 Christmas markets. Even the smallest of towns will have a xmas market with wooden hats selling the obligatory Gluehwein (mulled wine) to keep your cheeks rosy and Bratwurst fresh from the grill.
Even people from neighbouring countries such as Switzerland, Austria and Denmark, come streaming in to Germany to visit its world famous markets.
You can buy last minute holiday gifts, such as hand-carved nut crackers or angel decorations.
Try the festive biscuit Lebkuchen made with honey, spices and almonds; a delicious seasonal treat!
When it comes to xmas markets, Berliners are spoilt for choice. My favourite xmas market is the upscale Gendarmenmarkt with it’s beautiful white stands and light shows.
