Tartan Romantic Chic

Blazer / Jackets/ Romantique/ Skirts

Tartan Moschino skirt AW2013

Tartan, squares, plaids and checks are Rebel’s favourite trend of AW2013 from Celine to Moschino!  I have also fallen for the graphic look. Rather than styling it grungy and edgy, I like my tartans to look playful and whimsical.  Think preppy style, paired with a white blouses, Peter Pan collar and playful details like bows and empire-line shaped dresses.

My favourite shade of tartan is green as it’s classic but not as noticeable as red.

Zooey Deschannel is one lucky girl because she gets to wear Saint Laurent’s red tartan dress with white peter pan collar, black bow and empire waist. I’ve been dreaming of buying this dress but my purse reminds me I can’t !

If you are dreaming of the above Saint Laurent dress like me, consider  this cute red tartan dress courtesy of Karl Lagerfeld! Get a Peter Pan mock collar and a velevet black bow and you’re good to go!

Fashion Sisters: One Look, two Styles: The Pencil Skirt

Rebel/ Romantique/ Skirts

Pencil Skirt Streetstyle two ways to wear

The Pencil skirt, one of the most timeless and feminine wardrobe essentials, is the subject for this week’s sisters challenge.

We show two different ways to wear and style the most flattering of skirts: Nipped at the waist and knee length, this versatile all rounder is an endless source of inspiration for us!

Rebel:  My pencil skirt is from TK Maxx and made of boucle / tweed material. I find boucle materials not made by Chanel difficult to wear as it can look old-fashioned – think German wife of a Bavarian bank branch manager!  To avoid this provincial look, I consciously chose a simple, navy blue turtleneck jumper with opaque black tights and cream sandals to go with the tweed pencil skirt.

Rebel is wearing: Pencil skirt by TK Maxx, jumper by Rochas, sandals by BCBG, Trenchcoat by Burberry, Sunglasses by Hogan.

Leather Pencil skirt and sheepskin street style

Romantique: For my pencil skirt look, I was inspired by Loewe’s feminine  Autumn 2013 runway look of layering leather and sheepskin. Thigh high split leather pencil skirts and shearling coats prove that warm doesn’t mean compromising on style.

Inspired by Loewe’s runway look, Romantique is wearing: Chocolate brown leather pencil skirt  from Ralph Lauren, raspberry turtleneck jumper by Uniqlo, sheepskin parka coat by Stefanel, flat ankle boots by Kurt Geiger and canvas cherub bag from Fiorucci.

Roma Street Style

Denim/ Dresses/ Romantique/ Skirts/ Travel/ Wardrobe

Street style rome

Italy is a country in which police uniforms are designed by Giorgio Armani and “La Bella Figura” is a way of life. Looking good and having an eye for aesthetics is a national obsession in Italy. Walking down the street of Rome during our honeymoon, I enjoyed the elegant, expressive and sensual way Italians dress. In my opinion, the most stylish people of Europe! The German way of dressing is too practical, the English too eccentric and try-hard and the French can be too made-up at times. Italian style is the perfect balance between casual nonchalance and elegance.

Above picture: “Discretion is the opposite of vulgarity” – Giorgio Armani.  This stylish Roman lady does effortless chic in simple grey trousers, black shirt, jewelled ballet flats and a timeless Kelly Tote bag, cycling near Corso d’Italia.

Street Style Rome Maxi SKirt and Breton Stripes

Whilst  in Rome, I mostly looked dishevelled and exhausted from heat. Not so this trendy Roman: She oozes relaxed elegance in a nude coloured Maxi skirt and casual, off-the-shoulder Breton shirt while chilling near Piazza Navona. Viva Italia!

Rome Street Style monochrome stripes Dolce and Gabbana

Monochrome, block stripes were a big hit this summer at Dolce & Gabbana. This lady nailed the look with her horizontally striped top combined with a vertically striped puffy skirt and sandal wedges. Bellisima!

Ballerina Chic

Accessoires/ Romantique/ Skirts/ Wardrobe

Leather skirt from Max & Co.

My work colleagues have been amazing, organising surprise pre-wedding celebrations and a voucher from my favourite shop, French custome design jeweller Les Nereides. The voucher was burning a hole in my pocket, so on the long weekend, I popped by Les Nereides’ flagship store in London’s Covent Garden. Et voila, I chose these whimsical, adorably detailed asymmetrical earrings from the ‘Pas de Deux’ range.

After the cat range and  the gingerbread line, I ‘m now loving the ballerina earrings. Bring on Christmas and the Nutcracker ballet!

My straw bag with bamboo handles is from Miu Miu, broderie anglaise shirt from Amphora. I paired this with a leather skirt from Max & Co to not look too goody two shoes in this girly outfit.

Strawberries and Summer

Strawberries and summer belong together like Aperol and soda, like London and rain! As a woman of pleasure, it’s only logic to translate my love for all things sweet into fashion by wearing a strawberry print skirt. With temperatures rising, all I need for a casual Sunday is a fruit printed skirt, a vichy checked top, my Miu Miu straw bag and flat summer sandals.

I’m a huge fan of fruit and chocolate infused fashion and beauty: My perfumes are gourmand scents, smelling of pannacotta (Signorina) By Salvatore Ferragamo or gummi bears (Mugler’s Angel). My jewellery depicts sweet Parisian deserts and gingerbread houses. I like my style to be fun and child like when I feel like it!

How we wear flirty florals

Blazer / Jackets/ Dresses/ Skirts/ Trousers/ Wardrobe
Céline floral pants

Céline floral pants

“Florals are for middle-aged women with weight problems” – Karl Lagerfeld.

While I adore fashion king Karl Lagerfeld and his often funny (and  inappropriate!) quotes, I beg to differ on this occasion. Every woman should have a floral piece in her wardrobe, simply because they are feminine, flirty, fun and versatile. There’s flowers for every type of woman and every style.

This is how we Rebel and I rock florals:

1. Floral Trousers

If you are unsure whether florals suit you, wear them away from your face, as a skirt or trousers. Above: Rebel is wearing flower print pants from Céline SS 2012. To calm the pattern, she pairs her trousers with a one coloured cashmere jumper in orange. High Heels in black ensure that floras don’t look mumsy. Both shoes and jumper pick up the colours of the printed pants which further tones down the print.

2. The Floral Pencil Skirt

The ever slimming pencil skirt  lends itself perfectly to a bit of flowery action. My navy blue and pink skirt is from TK Maxx. I will be rocking this baby in winter with toasty tights and a warm parka. To elongate my shillouette  I added pointy patent kitten heel shoes from Logan to my flowery skirt. Again, to not make the flower print look to busy, I paired it with a cashmere cardi and navy t-shirt picking up the colours of the skirt.

3. The Floral Dress

For me, this is the ultimate way to wear florals, in the form of a playful dress. Fitted at the top, flared at over the hips and bum, this is an instant slimmer. For me, smaller florals work better as they tend to make me look skinnier compared to bigger flower prints. Dress from Max & Co, sandals from AGL Attilio Giusti Leombruni, sunglasses from Céline.

4. The Floral Blazer

The flower prints make the classic blazer look fresh. Throw on some pointy heels or metallic slip on for a modern take.

Florals and a tan always look great together! Hit the beach in a romantic and playful mood. My bikini is from domani. I love the small,  dainty millefleur flowers.

For some people the non plus ultra wardrobe basic is the denim jeans. For me, a staunch skirt and dress lover, it’s the pencil denim skirt. Reasons why:

  • The Denim Pencil is flattering for almost any figure, especially with a high waist and bum pockets
  • Like jeans, the various shades of blue fit with any and everything: From a casual breton shirt to a dressy satin blouse or lacy top. It goes with ballet flats and heels, wedges and kitten heels
  • Make your denim skirt work hard throughout the seasons, I wear mine from bitterly cold winter with thick woolen tights to humid hot summers with flip flops
  • My denim skirts are my trusty partners for all occasions, from holidays to parties to posh restaurants

I am wearing a navy blue leather skater skirt from Max & Co, breton shirt from D&G, sandals from AGL Attilio Giusti Leombruni.

Leather is a luxurious, sexy, classy material not just reserved for autumn and winter. It’s a great all year round staple. I love clashing the leather with a feminine lacy blouse, casual with a cashmere jumper or neat with a crisp white blouse.

My A-line, navy blue skater leather skirt is a more girly alternative to the pencil leather skirt. Perfect for summer, I just add a sleeveless shirt mariniere and am good to go.

As this leather skirt is short, I like to pair it with flat sandals to not make it look vulgar

Fendi Skater Leather Skirt

Skater Leather skirt as seen in the French Marie Claire, inspired by the Fendi defilee SS 2013. How do the French like to rock the “Jupe Patineuse en Cuir”? They like to give it an air of the “English College” by pairing it with a clean white shirt, a navy blue blazer and black ankle booties to elongate the silhouette.

I love the full skirt in leather, it gives the sexyness a girly, innocent note

Chic in Red, Blue and White

Romantique/ Shirts/ Skirts/ Wardrobe
red sunglasses

Blue polka dot blouse from Van Laack, lace style belt with jewel heart from Moschino, white pencil skirt from H&M.

To fit in with our French theme this week, I dressed in the colours of the french flag: Blue, white and red.  In the 18th century, French sympathizers with the cause of liberty raised a tri-coloured flag of blue, white and red. These have become the emblematic colours of that century’s two great revolutions: The American war of Independence and the French revolution. While the United States adopted the demonstrative design of stars and stripes, the French, with Cartesian simplicity, opted for three equal vertical panels.

These hues also happen to be the colours of the nautical Breton style! But rather than stripes, today I felt in the mood for a blue polka dot shirt and the ever so slimming pencil skirt in summery broderie anglaise fabric. Completed with navy mini wedge espadrilles from RAS and the little straw bag from Misako.

The blouse (from van Laack)  is a bit too big so I casually knotted it and also tried the combination of clenching it in with a belt to give it more shape.

Red Versace sunglasses and van Laack shirt

Thanks to Rebel’s suggestion, I bought these red Versace wayfarer sunglasses and I am absolutely in love with them. At first I thought they are too flashy and not my style, but I’m surprised that they fit with lots of outfits. Great accessories can really make or break a look.  Read Rebel’s post on red sunglasses here.

Are Trainers the new High Heels? How to enhance white legs?

Beauty/ Rebel/ Shoes/ Skirts

Will we see this summer season more trainers or high heels on streets? Are a pair of cool sneaks the new high heels? I like it to mixing up a smart or edgy outfit with a pair of cool sneaks.

Especially, I like combinations of sneaks and my floral pencilskirts. The outfit ist pretty easy to style: on top be classic, in the middle go on floral and on the feet be sporty & cool.

Today, first time in this year I went out without tights and oh my! my white legs!  What to do in this beauty case? How to enhance white legs?

I used my BB Cream by Clarins for my legs better than self tanning lotion! Keep a bottle of bb creme in your handbag to renew your legs during the day.
