London Fashion Week Sept 2014 street style Les nereides alice earrings

I loved getting amongst the inspirational, stylish like-minded bloggers and designers at LFW September 2014.

Romantique’s round-up of the hottest and most romantic street styles of London Fashion Week!

Street Style 1: Tea Time in Paris

Gorgeous designer and blogger, Love, from The Girl Named Love is rocking jewellery from Les Nereides. The small Alice in Wonderland from the “Tea time in Paris” collection is to die for. Apart from her name, I also love Love’s laid back, chic style. Checkered sneakers, checked poncho and that rebel red lipstick! (Fire and Ice by Revlon).

Street style 2:  Brigitte Bardot Style in London

What’s not to love about this look? The Vichy gingham checked blouse – casually knotted, the A-Line leather skirt, the flat ballerina pumps and the natural make-up.  It’s like an excursion to the Cote d’Azur in the 50s.

Street style 3: Fondant coloured Autumn Look

This sugary pastel blue, quilted waffle coat makes me long for chillier autumn days so I can wear coats again. The flat,  gold-chained slippers  mirro the gold buttons of the coat beautifully. The embroidered mini bag is the icing on the cake.

London Fashion Week Sept Street style lilac and purple

Street style 4: Lilac and Turqoise

In this outfit, lilac and turqoise go together like toast and Nutella! This is a romantic princess look with the little sparkly crown, embellished collar and soft dress. The clashes of the colours give it just the right amount of edge to balance the sweetness.

Street style 5: Greetings from Bella Italia

Ah Sicilia I miss you! This street style makes me reminisce about our holiday back in July. The cart wheels on the Dolce and Gabbana T-shirt look like a statement necklace.  Knitted pencil skirt from Ekaterina Kukhareva.

London Fashion Week september 2014 Streetstyle Romantique and Rebel

t’s fashion week in London!  Rebel flew in from Hamburg, especially for the occasion, which meant lots of “girly nonsense” time, as Mr Romantique disparagingly refers to our chatter.

Twice a year, this festival of style takes place at Somerset House – one of London’s major cultural venues in the heart of the city. You don’t need show tickets to enjoy the London Fashion Week atmosphere. The courtyard of Somerset house is open to the public.   British fashion is known for its classic heritage brands as well as edgy eccentric South East London style reflected by the many fashionistas flocking to LFW. Stay tuned for a full run-down of our favourite’s LFW outfits.

What to wear at London Fashion Week:

London is known for it’s gaudy, eclectic style, where everyone wants to stand out as unique. Rather than trying to keep up or even outdo the fashionistas, we dressed true to our own styles, picking wearable pieces that we might don in the office, whilst still looking slick.  For us, every day may as well be a fashion show! Rebel and I had lots of fun immersing ourselves in the eclectic London style mix, which we found to be a great source of inspiration.

Rebel is wearing:

  • Long pear necklace from Gabriele Frantzen
  • Skinny Jeans by Topshop
  • Blue sandals by Zara
  • Blue blazer with gold buttons by Tommy Hilfiger
  • red sunglasses by Paul Smith
  • Red lipstick: Ruby Woo by MAC

Romantique is wearing:

  • Bordeaux coloured dress and white Peter Pan colour by Max & Co
  • Leopard print pointy flats by BCBG
  • Macaron bracelet by N2 Les Nereides
  • Brown cross body bag by Moschino
  • Sunglasses wayfarer by Ray Ban
  • Red lipstick: Ruby Woo and Viva Glam by MAC

Coco in Notting Hill

Blazer / Jackets/ Dresses/ Romantique/ Wardrobe

Stripey dress Max & Co, Boucle jacket, dolce glasses

Take three classic items, each made timeless by Coco Chanel:

  • Stripes
  • Little Bouclé jacket
  • Two-toned ballet pump

Et voilà, the Coco Chanel look is perfect!

I find it fascinating that Madame Chanel liberated women from the constraints of their corsets in the 20’s, revolutionising the way women dress, and nearly a century later, her influence continues to make an impact. This is largely due to the genius of Karl Lagerfeld, who manages to keep Coco’s wardrobe classics fresh by constantly reinventing them.

What is your favourite Coco Canel basic? The long pearl necklace? The tweed suit? The quilted leather handbag? Or the simple breton striped shirt?

I’m wearing:

  • Stripey dress by Max & Co SS2014
  • Woven leather handbag from Gharani Strok
  • Bouclé jacket by MKT Studio
  • Silver cap ballet pump from Hispanitas
  • Sunglasses from Dolce and Gabbana

Grecian Silk Dress at Isola Bella

Dresses/ Italy/ Romantique/ Travel

Toarmina Sicily Stefanel Silk Dress

We’ve just returned from a wonderful holiday in Sicily, the volcanic island off the coast of Calabria, with a culture as rich as Canoli!
A full destination review will be coming soon, but bear with me whilst I trawl through the hundreds of photos I took on this beautiful island. In the meantime, let me share my absolute peak-summer must-have item:

The light silk dress. When temperatures climb up and humidity rises, you need a garnment that keeps you cool and isn’t too fitted or clingy. The flowing, luxurious silk is a high-class natural fibre that feels light and free, perfect for hot summer holidays.

I’m wearing a  silk dress with a Grecian-style  embellished necklace applique to glam up the sun dress; perfect to carry me through until sunset apertifs.  I spent whole days at the stunning beach of Isola Bella, situated near glam-glitzy Taormina.  Isola Bella is a natural reserve with stunning views, crystal clear waters and plenty of fish, making it a paradise for snorklers. Beware of the jellyfish (locally known as Medusa)  who got me on the first day! Their sting is harmless (unless you’re allergic) and burns for about 30 minutes. Two weeks later, my skin still bears the signature of the annoying little creature. My Sicilian adventure souvenir!

Romantique’s ‘Best of Sicily’ post is coming soon.  Stay tuned!

I am wearing:

Dress: Stefanel

Sunglasses: Versace

Metallic sandals: AGL Attilio Giusti Leombruni

Limoncello Lace dress

Dresses/ Wardrobe
Limoncello lace dress Notting Hill Street style

I have a penchant for pretty fabrics: Lace is utterly romantic and feminine. To not look like a hippie lost on your way to coachella or as if you worn your grandma’s table cloth, here are my…

4 Quick tips on how to wear lace

– Lace is a material that can look cheap if the quality is not high. Keep it classy.

– Opt for tailored, classic and crisp shillouettes like a collared blouse and pencil skirt for a ladylike and elegant look that is totally wearable to work too.

– Inject some colour for a modern take: Yellow, red, pink & orange. Don’t be afraid, be bold!

– Tone down hair & accessories. The lace is enough decoration, keep make-up, shoes & jewellery minimal.

I’m wearing a two-toned dress made from macramé lace. The collared shirt and straight skirt keep the look classic. The limoncello yellow colour adds a summery note and the metallic belt clashes nicely with the prettiness of the dress.

Zebra-print-denim-and-red-gingham-coat

3 years ago, we started our fashion blog Romantique and Rebel, borne of our love for  fashion, decor, travel and everything beautiful. It’s been a wonderful journey so far,  during which we’ve been lucky enough to forge friendships with readers, met like-minded people at fashion events and have had endless fun inspiring each other, showcasing our different styles and philosophies.

The last year has been choc full  of life-enriching events,  providing us with a wealth of  inspiration: a wedding for Romantique, travel to Italy, Spain and Australia and even a new job for Rebel. At times, it’s been challenging to update the blog regularly whilst holding down busy jobs and planning a wedding, but the satisfaction of  sharing our passions always prevails.

A huge thanks to all our wonderful readers, Twitter and Instagram followers, and Facebook fans. We love each and everyone of you!

Here’s to a great year ahead!

Enjoy these flashbacks to our most popular posts from the last 12 months.

The Knotted Belt

Accessoires/ Dresses/ Romantique/ Wardrobe

looped belt, max and co po

A belt is something that can take your outfit from boring to chic.  A looped or knotted belt adds a creative edge to classic belts whilst addressing the issue of excess length.

I’m mixing up my goody-good-girl polka dot dress with a knotted, wide belt. Accessories can make or break your style: I like my belts wide – to define my waist and to pull the outfit together.

How to knot a belt?

It’s easy:

  1. Tie the belt around your waist and buckle it.
  2. Take the tail end of the belt and tuck it underneath near the buckle.

I am wearing:

  • Navy polka dot dress from Max & Co
  • Belt: Gift from Australia (thanks to my mum-in-law)
  • Macaron necklace: N2 Les Nereides

  • Lavender pink bag: Bally
  • Umbrella: Moschino

Vogue Festival London – Best of Street Style (Part 1)

Coats/ Denim/ Dresses/ Wardrobe

Russian girl Vogue Festiva Valentino

Last Saturday, I spent a fun-filled day at Vogue Festival on London’s Southbank, with my lovely  colleagues Berengere and Gledis. We went to see Alexa Chung and Lucinda Chambers speak on “Personal Style – Do you have it?” As it often goes with these type of events, the actual, one hour long talk, was not the highlight of the day.  The real fun was to meet and photograph like minded fashionistas, to be inspired by different, creative styles and to generally indulge in ‘girly nonsense’ (as Mr Romantique would call it).

I’m excited to share with you my Best of Street Style – gorgeous bloggers competed for the photographers attention and the girls were more than happy to pose.

Above and below: Head to toe in Valentino, the King of Glamour. Russian blogger Sofia Serdiukova  impressed with a black lace dress (including sheer panels) and a gold brocade coat. The string of pearls and long, curly hair added even more femininity to the already drop dead gorgeous outfit.

She perfectly epitomises Valentino’s mantra on women’s style:   “A woman must decide whether she wants to look ok or whether she wants to look too much, I prefer it when a woman wears an enormous skirt, a beautiful blouse with simple shoes, rather than a dress that that is too much and not elegant. A dress has to live, it can’t be wooden.”

Russian Blogger Valentino Vogue Festival

The must have accessory of the day was a statement lip: Cherry red, shocking pink or classic Hollywood, lips were bold. It illustrated beautifully how you can transform and add to an outfit with eye catching lips.

Boyish, relaxed sexyness in torn denim, a hat, black heels and the ever pesent statement lip! Graphic, big prints were popular too.

Vogue Festival Streestyle 2014 London  How cute is this dress? I loved the rural print at the hem and the jewelled collar. No, unfortunately this dress is not from Zara but was bought on holiday in Japan :-(.

Berry is wearing: Black coat with leather sleeves from Zara. Sunglasses from Stella McCartney.

Spring Super Stripes

Dresses/ Romantique

Stripey summer dress Max and Co

The sunshine arrived this weekend in London and I’m more than happy to leave my thick tights and winter coats in the cupboard (yes, it was warm enough to go out without tights). My summer clothes are still in storage, so I chose to wear a fresh, stripey look for the first warm day of the year. Rather than relying on my trusted navy striped shirts, I went for a more graphic take on the Breton look.  Thick bands of denim blue and beige adorn my two-toned dress with a vertical stripe running through the middle, just for the fun of it.

Striped dress SS2014 Max and Co

I am wearing:

  • Dress from Max and Co SS2014
  • Pointy snake skin flats from Dolce Vita at TK Maxx
  • Pink handbag from Bally
  • Paris Earrings from Les Nereides
  • Trench coat from Stefanel

Banish the Breton this summer and go for big and bold stripes this spring!

Spring day in Notting Hill

Mr Romantique and I went to Notting Hill today for a hearty Honest Burger. Sun hungry Londoners were soaking up the rays outside the bars and restaurants.

Shades of Grey

Dresses/ Romantique

Max and Co grey wool dress London streetstyle

Some things are just meant to be. When I first spotted this  grey wool dress in a Max & Co shop in Southerrn Italy, I heavy heartedly gave it a miss. I had to remind myself that I already bought a dress, had dental expenses coming up and just had to cut back in general.

Three months later I saw the same dress in the Christmas sale in Berlin. And now it’s mine. Max and Co (Max Mara’s younger subline)  is my holy grail dressmaker. The tailoring is flawless and the most flattering for my figure (think fitted bodice and flared skirt). The subtle and discreet grey is perfect when I feel like wearing my rather loud purple and red patterned coat.

I am wearing:

  • Wool dress – Max & Co
  • Scallop collar – COS
  • Ankle boots – Geox at TK Maxx
  • Red handbag: Picard

Purple and red patterned coat from Max & Co. Necklace and earrings from Les Nereides and N2 Paris.
