How we wear flirty florals

“Florals are for middle-aged women with weight problems” – Karl Lagerfeld.

While I adore fashion king Karl Lagerfeld and his often funny (and  inappropriate!) quotes, I beg to differ on this occasion. Every woman should have a floral piece in her wardrobe, simply because they are feminine, flirty, fun and versatile. There’s flowers for every type of woman and every style.

This is how we Rebel and I rock florals:

1. Floral Trousers

If you are unsure whether florals suit you, wear them away from your face, as a skirt or trousers. Above: Rebel is wearing flower print pants from Céline SS 2012. To calm the pattern, she pairs her trousers with a one coloured cashmere jumper in orange. High Heels in black ensure that floras don’t look mumsy. Both shoes and jumper pick up the colours of the printed pants which further tones down the print.

2. The Floral Pencil Skirt

The ever slimming pencil skirt  lends itself perfectly to a bit of flowery action. My navy blue and pink skirt is from TK Maxx. I will be rocking this baby in winter with toasty tights and a warm parka. To elongate my shillouette  I added pointy patent kitten heel shoes from Logan to my flowery skirt. Again, to not make the flower print look to busy, I paired it with a cashmere cardi and navy t-shirt picking up the colours of the skirt.

3. The Floral Dress

For me, this is the ultimate way to wear florals, in the form of a playful dress. Fitted at the top, flared at over the hips and bum, this is an instant slimmer. For me, smaller florals work better as they tend to make me look skinnier compared to bigger flower prints. Dress from Max & Co, sandals from AGL Attilio Giusti Leombruni, sunglasses from Céline.

4. The Floral Blazer

The flower prints make the classic blazer look fresh. Throw on some pointy heels or metallic slip on for a modern take.

5. The Floral Bikini

Florals and a tan always look great together! Hit the beach in a romantic and playful mood. My bikini is from domani. I love the small,  dainty millefleur flowers.

4 ways to wear the classic Coco Bouclé Jacket

Blazer / Jackets/ Denim/ Romantique/ Skirts/ Wardrobe
Max & Co boxy jacket SS 2013

Max & Co boxy jacket SS 2013

Few things are as versatile as the Coco Chanel inspired Bouclé Tweed jacket. In winter, you can wear the jacket under your coat, in summer, just wear it alone over skirts, denim or shorts. I own two boxy jackets: One black and white one with cream ruffled contrast piping  and a modern take on the classic in blue and white with chain metal contrast piping  from Max & Co SS 2013.

Above: This must be my favourite combination of the Chanel inspired jacket: Casually with jeans. The jacket gives the distressed denim just the right amount of  effortless chic. Boxy cardigan from Max & Co, Jeans from Stefanel, lace-up shoes from Attilio Giusti Leombruni.

The Preppy Look: This is a very  feminine combination: The puffy baloon skirt in satin from Max & Co and the cardigan, which is made of light cotton yarn, make an easy, pretty spring look.

Boucle Jacket and Shorts

Effortless, chic and very French: Boucle jacket and vichy gingham checked shorts, straw bag from Miu Miu and Pretty Ballerinas ballet pumps.

The all round jacket works with dresses too: I’m wearing a stripey navy dress from Massimo Dutti and nude Pretty Ballerinas ballet pumps.

Zara’s printed Blazer

Blazer / Jackets/ Rebel/ Wardrobe

These days, you can’t escape the print trend anymore, it’s everywhere:  Trousers, blouses, jackets and blazers. If you want to go along with the trend, then invest in a printed piece and you’re on the safe side. At Zara, I can find the best fashion pieces and they don’t even cost much.  If I get bored of all the printed pieces it doesn’t hurt that I have only worn it  once. I like all the printed stuff and in magazines they look crazily chic but I actually love prefer  monochrome fashion. I love Zara’s printed blazer  because the small print is in the style of “artsy” and any color  – strong or soft – goes well with it.

How to wear Black and White Stripes

Blazer / Jackets/ Rebel/ Wardrobe

How to wear black and white Stripes? In my eyes there is not much room for trial and error because the stripes  are already a statement. If your top is striped, black or navy blue pants, skirts, jackets and blazers are always the right choice. All white pieces works out as well. Get a twist with poppy shoes and bags or a flashy clutch would be great.

Dress like Jenna Lyons

Blazer / Jackets/ Icons/ Rebel/ Wardrobe

Who could not love her style and it’s so easy to learn from Jenna.

Keep it simple but don’t  get bored. Chose straight, classic, strong colors because black is not a colour. Be always chic but don’t try too hard.

Wear jeans, a silk shirt, a jacket or a blazer, a pair of glasses and always high heels.

Monochrome Blue Sunday

Blazer / Jackets/ Denim/ Rebel/ Wardrobe

Monochrome dressing is nothing new.

Dressing in a single hue from top to bottom, especially with the recent predilection for vibrant pigments, is something to be strongly considered.  For the next coming weeks I will be doing Monochrome Days; picking a single colour and showing examples of off-the-runway and on-the-street outfits in an effort to inspire dressing around a single shade.

If you need sometimes a break from all the colorful clothes, floral, batik, stripes and animal pattern and you should focus more on minimalist looks with monochrome basics and start with the timeless colour blue.

Dragée coloured Blazers

Blazer / Jackets/ Rebel/ Wardrobe

At the moment, Zara offers beautiful, classic blazers in dragee colours, all for under 100 Euros! You can’t go wrong by having a light blazer in your wardrobe, it’s a summer basic essential. The one I am wearing in the picture above has a great detail, a nude suede leather ellbow patch.

This soft pink Chanel look-a-like box jacket from Zara can also be yours for under 100 Euro. It’s an absolute classic and with it’s gold buttons, zipper and Boucle details not as puristic as a blazer.

Mix pastel blazer with uni coloured simple tops, blouses and shorts.

Soft Apricot Jeans

Blazer / Jackets/ Denim/ Rebel/ Wardrobe

For colored denim, choose the same cut you would for regular jeans – for me always skinny.

What do I wear with the new pastel jeans?
If you’re a color newbie, stick to blushes, grays, and soft tan and nude shades. They pair fantastically with black, navy (a superchic option), and neutrals.

Jessia Alba – The more sporty look with grey biker boots and wide-cut cardigan and the cute hot pink satchel bag gives the twist.

Cameron Diaz – Absolutely feminine her look the pastel jeans combined only with nude tones!

Mash up your clothes

Blazer / Jackets/ Romantique/ Skirts/ Wardrobe

“Make-up your Life, mash up your clothes find the life you like. Times are hard, so we have to use clothes to have some fun.”  This is the theme of Moschino Cheap & Chic FW 2012 collection.

In this adventurous spirit, Moschino Cheap & Chic mixed strict military jackets in olive green with baby pink pleated chiffon skirts. Get inspired and try out unusual combos and see how you feel ! These days, you don’t have to decide whether you are Romantique or Rebel, just be both 🙂

Above: I’m wearing a turquoise pleated skirt by Benetton and a leather jacket by Massimo Dutti. Straw hand bag from Fossil and salmon sunglasses by Celine.
