A controversial post about a pink coat and brown boots

Coats/ Romantique/ Shoes/ Wardrobe

Pink max and co winter coat and brown sergio rossi boots london street style

What’s controversial about this outfit, some of you might say. Well, according to Rebel, this outfit is a terrible combination as the rustic riding boots are ruining the feminine pink coat. Rebel even went as far as saying that I cannot publish this outfit! Which of course led me to publisise it anyway.I agree partly: dainty flats, block heeled Mary-Janes or simple Chelsea ankle boots would have been a better fit better for the romantic coat. However, the rich chocolate brown boots are a good match for the pastel pink and take the girlyness down a notch, not necessarily a bad thing. In terms of shilouette, the fitted boots contrast nicely against the voluminous “bathrobe” cut of the coat.

I’m dying to know what you think: let me know you: Brown boots and pink coat hot or flop? Let us know!

Knits ‘n Boots

Accessoires/ Romantique/ Shoes/ Wardrobe

Chunky knits and boots london street style

I’m definitely a summer girl: I love nothing more than bold colours in stripey or checked patterns, set against sun kissed skin and dishevelled hair. Now that autumn is here, with it’s shorter, chillier days, soft-hazy light and rusty colours, I’m rediscovering my love for the colder seasons. Heavier textures like chunky knits and leather are my best friends. Try texture layering to elevate the common knit to vogue: Oversized knitted sweaters worn over soft silk dresses, lace or leather skirts. Now is the time for cosying up, drinking hot chocolate in  street cafes, watching the world go by, or cocooning at home.
Knee-high leather boots are a modern classic. I love pairing mine with dresses and pencil skirts

I am wearing:

  • Black wool piano Dress by Max & Co
  • Brown leather boots with gold heel detail by Sergio Rossi
  • Beige knitted  scarf / poncho with hood by Stefanel
  • Pink woven leather handbag by Gharani Strok
  • Pink mirrored Ray Ban Aviators borrowed from Mr Romantique

‘Effortless chic’ is such an overused term, is sounds like a cliche. If there is one person how does personify effortless chic, it’s Alexa. Pairing a heavy knit sweater with a sequinned pencil skirt and high heels. Genius and tres Parisienne!

On Fashion Sale Shopping & Poppy Sandals

Rebel/ Shoes

When I go out for sale shopping in designer stores I always keep my eyes peeled for statement pieces! Most people go shopping with an open mind and end up buying stuff which they don’t intend to wear in the coming months, or never wear them at all. It’s also used to happen to me but these days I’m very well organized. So before going out for sale shopping keep calm and MAKE A LIST!

This summer season I was looking for pop-coloured sandals because a bright sandal will turn an all-black, inconspicuous outfit into a ‘pap’-able one.

And luckily I found these chic sandals in vibrant blue with gold ankle strap at Zara!

All black and electric blue shoes, whether it’s a sandal or boots,  work in summer and even in winter. A good pair of shoes can change any outfit.

Fashion Brunch in Notting Hill

Accessoires/ London/ Romantique/ Shoes

La Paire Wolf and Badger

Brunch is my favourite meal of the day. Not only because I hail from Berlin where brunch is an obligatory weekend past time. I love sweet breakfast (croissant, Nutella)  merged with savoury goodies such as delicious, runny eggs, cold meats and fresh juices.

“New Toms” restaurant in Notting Hill is a beautifully decorated place with painted, baroque-esque ceilings and a outdoor patio for those (rare) balmy days in London. The stripped-down-to-the-best menu offered delicious brunch options such as Eggs Benedict, homemade blueberry muffins and pain au chocolat for the sweet toothed like me.

Brunch at New Tom's Westbourne Grove

Fuelled by great food, we strolled along Westbourne Grove and it’s array of fashionable shops. “Wolf & Badger”is a fashion store that provides a platform for selected, emerging UK designers.  Every weekend, a new independent designer displays their clothes, shoes & jewellery in the shop.

That Saturday was my my lucky day as I discovered the beautiful flats and sandals of La Paire. Founder and designer Amy La displayed a sneak preview of her Autumn/Winter 2014 pointy ballet pumps in the shop. Needless to say, I’m in love with the confetti-glitter flats and the metallic Easter-egg colours of the shoes. Handmade in Spain, they are not only stylish but also fairly priced.

Wolf & Badger was named one of Britain’s best boutiques by British Vogue, make sure you pop by when you visit London. Thanks Wolf & Badger and La Paire, Romantique’s  new favourite shop for ballet flats & sandals!

Fashion sistsers: One Look, Two Styles: Chic Socks and Sandals

Accessoires/ Rebel/ Romantique/ Shoes/ Wardrobe

Fashion sisters socks and sandals

Can Socks and sandals even be chic, I hear some of you say. Of course! We are not talking about thick cotton wool socks in Birkenstocks! We have plateau sandals and colourful socks in mind as weel as sequinned wool knee-highs paired with strappy sandals.  Go for a monochrome look, teaming socks and shoe colour,  for a more subtle take on the look.

Rebel chose to go for bright blue socks and plateau open sandals, matching the colour of her jumper. A bright, fun look. The coordination of the jumper and socks calms the whole outfit, making it look pulled together.

  • Rebel is wearing: Blue socks from Falke, Jeans from Tribeca, coat by Gianfranco Ferre.

I chose to wear black thick socks and strappy, bronze sandals. The playful bubble skirt and quirky macaroon necklace are the cherry on top of this whimsical look.

  • Romantique is wearing: Navy and pink striped bubble skirt and sandals  from Max & Co. Macaron necklace from N2 Les Nereides. Purple and pink patterned coat from Max & co.

Stella’s (McCartney) colorful Trainers

Rebel/ Shoes

Your closet is a room full of surprises and you should have a closer look what treasures it can hide!  I bought my pink adidas trainers by Stella Mc Cartney around 2005 or 2006. In the past 8 years, the trainers were in the box because I had no desire to wear these colorful trainers. In all those years I’d be able to sell or give away the shoes but my instinct told me keep them, their time will come. Now, in these days where fashion is so colorful, bright and flashy Stella’s trainers fit perfectly on the streets.

Too old to be wearing Converse Chucks?

Rebel/ Shoes

All year round, 365 days a year, I love wearing my white and blue Converse with skinny jeans, Céline pants, Chinos – all types of pants but not to skirts. Again and again I read that people beyond their forty years are not so well advised to wear Chucks. So, am I too old to wear Converse??

I think it’s hard to give categorical style recommendations for certain age groups. Of course it needs a sense of proportion and a bit of skill in styling. If it’s there, then I can well imagine Chucks on a 85 year old woman. For me, Converse are the only shoes that are completely ageless, wearable from kids to grandma. I am sure that I will put on my Converse Chucks the next 20 years and then I will be 62 year old!

Think penny loafers are an old-fashioned prep school look?

Rebel/ Shoes

Prep school students in the 1950s decided to insert a penny into the diamond shaped slit, the name “penny loafers” stuck and the hand-sewn slip on with the ivy league heritage became ubiquitous for collegiate cool. But in these days “penny loafers” are no longer the domain of sockless Italians or Wall Street boys as Gordon Gekko wannabes from the 80’s.

The autumn begins, now is a perfect time to wear my Alden Penny Loafers. In order to look sleek and modern with penny loafers I always wear the shoes with denim and sockless. Never with a suit because that’s too conservative.

The New Ballet Flat!

Romantique/ Shoes
My pointy nude flats with ankle straps are from BCBG

My pointy nude flats with ankle straps are from BCBG. Gingham Vichy dress from Max & Co.

Recently, I’ve been cheating on my beloved ballerina pumps with pointy flats featuring a delicate ankle strap. They are just the perfect all rounder: The pointy shape elongates the leg (especially in nude colours) and they always look elegant, grading up every outfit.

Here I am wearing snake embossed black patent pointy flats, also from BCBG, If I see great shoes I love, I buy them in in several colours . The casual A-line dress is from Max & Co. Pair the shoes to cropped trousers for work. Or with denim and a white shirt. They’ll elevate all different styles!

Alexa Chung and Rihanna pointy flats

Pointy flats worn a la Romantique and Rebel: Alexa Chung teams her two-toned pointy flats from Chanel with a romantic, cream tweed dress. Rihanna takes on the Rebel style, pairing the same pointy flats with denim hotpants, Karl Lagerfeld Tshirt and a black Blazer.

Found: The Perfect Red High Heels

Attention shoe lovers: Prepare to be wooed by the sexiest red heels (maybe) ever made. Aren’t they just crying out for a fun-filled fling? I can see it now: Sturdy, seductive suitor seeks single female for a romantic romp. Must love dancing, parties, and short skirts. Long walks on the beach types need not apply. Think that sounds like you?

“I never wear flats. My shoes are so high that sometimes when I step out of them, people look around in confusion and ask, “Where’d she go?” and I have to say, “I’m down here.” – Marian Keyes

“If somebody steps on your shoes and ruins them, don’t freak out.. get a new pair of shoes. If you miss something, don’t freak out.. there’s nothing you can do to change it.. just move on” – Usher

“What do women want? Shoes.”  I agree and woman want: Love, Bags, Career, a boyfriend, a husband………
