Metallic Looks

Metallic jumper street style

Metallic jumper street style

“You look like a disco ball” – This is what my fiancee told me the other morning when I wore my Set golden-bronze metallic jumper.  Haha I could write a book about the funny sayings he comes up with when describing my latest fashion conquests. Luckily I love this jumper so much, there’s nothing he could say that would made me not wear it anymore.

The bronze gold colour of my jumper from Set (bought at a boutique in Potsdam, Germany) is flattering for the skin tone and the pink contrast piping seams give the jumper that certain something. It also spices up my boring brown corderouy pants!

Black Suit and Nike

Rebel/ Shoes

Business-Suit-Street-style

Nothing new to mix trainers with a black suit but a bit out of fashion, I think. I wanted to wear this look again, but only with black sneakers to keep the business character clear and for a natural authority at work.

Black-Suit-and-Converse

Instead of trainers you can mix a black suit with dark converse, it’s always a good idea to revitalize a clean business look.

The Street Style Look of Stella Mc Cartney

Icons/ Rebel

stella-mac-cartney-fashion-style

That’s one of my favorite look from Stella Mc Cartney. I love her Breton shirt and you can see and even feel the top quality of her blazer. The cut of her double buttoned blazer is really a master class! Her look is so effortless chic, I’m melting away.

Vogue-eitor-French-Style-Basics

Regardless of Stella’s look I adore this simple outfit and you don’t need the latest fashion pics. You just need good basics in high quality, especially the blazer hast to fit. I wear: a breton shirt by H&M but my Blazer is by See by Chloe and I don’t regret that investment from more than 500 EURO’s.

Winter Beauty Buys

Beauty/ Romantique
Chanel nail varnish "Delight", Bobbi Brown blusher "Pale Pink", Chanel eyeshadow quad "Raffinement" and Bourjois eye pencils

Chanel nail varnish “Delight”, Bobbi Brown blusher “Pale Pink”, Chanel eyeshadow quad “Raffinement” and Bourjois eye pencils

Middle of Feb and spring still seems so far away in the Northern Hemisphere – February is the time I struggle on through the winter, having had a cold, feeling a bit sickly and self-pitying. Perfect excuse for some beauty pick-me-ups to make me feel better. I picked up these gems I find myself loving and using almost every day so I thought it would be worth sharing with you!

Bobbi Brown's "Pale pink"

Bobbi Brown’s “Pale pink”

I discovered Bobbi Brown’s blusher “Pale Pink” only by accident when an airport shop assistant recommended this colour to me after asking her for a fresh natural blusher. Upon realising that the shop assistant reached for this almost neon looking colour, I was determined I would never buy this colour. Never judge a book by it’s cover though, as this colour turns out to be the most natural, just-pinched, instantly pretty cheek colour I have tried out in ages.  It was only later that I discovered that none other than Kate Middleton used this gem for her wedding day.

Chanel Nail Varnish Delight

Chanel Nail Varnish Delight

Chanel’s nail varnish “Delight” is a golden bronze with champagne shimmer and surprisingly suited for every day wear. It doesn’t look over the top, despite it’s shimmer and foil like finish, and fits with most outfits. By the way, I’m not showing off my engagement ring in the pic on the right hand side.

Chanel Eyeshadow quad "Raffinement"

Chanel Eyeshadow quad “Raffinement”

In my never ending quest to find a natural, pretty eyeshadow for every day wear, I came across Chanel’s eyeshadow Les 4 Ombres in “Raffinement” from the Spring 2013 make-up collection. My go-to colour from this quad is the bottom left shade – a taupey sandy  brown. My only niggle is that the frosty champagne shade is practically useless because of it’s shimmer fallout – I found the shimmer on my nose, cheeks and chin – not a great look!

Bourjois Kohl and Contour Shadow and Light

Bourjois Kohl & Contour Shadow and Light

Bourjois’ double ended eye pencils Kohl & Contour Shadow & Light come in a dark shade and a light sparkly shade for the waterline to open up the eyes. They come in really great, wearable colours so it was hard for me to decide. I went for:

  • Brun &  Caramel: A deep brown and a gorgeous bronze shade.
  • Gris & Petale: A smokey grey and a shimmery light pink shade.

Tell us, what are your  beauty pick-me-ups to beat the winter blues?

Tutu skirt & dress

French Chic: Marion Cotillard and Charlotte Casiraghi in tutu dresses

Dolly look: Marion Cotillard and Charlotte Casiraghi in tutu dresses

Who doesn’t remember Carrie Bradshaw wearing a pale pink tutu skirt in the intro sequence of Sex and the City? And which girl didn’t want to be a ballerina at some point in her life? A tulle skirt or dress is charmingly girly and can be dressed in so many ways. Wear it to the office paired with a crisp white shirt or with a short,  loose jumper for a more casual approach. Cropped jackets or blazers always look good to balance out the fluffiness of the a-line tulle skirt.

If you think the layered, full-on petticoat tutu is too much, just try one discreet layer of tulle. My black tulle dress is from Max & Co. The polka dot tulle is repeated in the detail of the short sleeves. Pink neck tie from Moschino, leather waist belt from Post & Co.

Should grown women wear Hello Kitty?

Lifestyle/ Rebel

TaiwanElleHelloKitty

Hello Kitty, that cuddly cartoon cat at the forefront of Sanrio’s, is usually embraced by young girls, but that doesn’t stop many grown women sporting Hello Kitty apparel or accessories.

Is it OK for grown women to sport the cuddly cartoon cat?

Please, stop wearing Hello Kity shirts or sweaters if you are 20 plus. Believe me it’s better watching Charlize Theron in the movie “Young adults” or:

decorate your aquarium with a Hello Kitty screw cap of shower gel as I did.

A classic black coat is a wardrobe staple, of course. I like mine classic but with a girly twist: My Max & Co Black Coat is wonderfully classically A-Line cut, double breasted with an empire high waistline.

Laloushka Fashion Dolls

Laloushka Coco Chanel doll

Laloushka Coco Chanel doll

When I discovered Laloushka handmade, personalised dolls, I became a little girl all over again! Laloushka dolls maker, Polish designer  Marta Hryniak, decided in 2010 to launch her own business, making personalised dolls on order.

Find the inner girl in yourself by creating a mini-you or create a unique gift for one of your friends: Does she/he have a unique feature, like a wild mane of hair, and a favourite handbag, pair of shoes or dress? All of this can be reflected in the cute handmade dolls.

Laloushka fashion designer dolls are hilarious alter egos of the famous fashion designers such as Karl Lagerfeld, Coco Chanel, Miuccia Prada and many, many more.

Laloushka also feature a horoscope doll collection and a bridal collection. Check the whole doll collection out here.

I’m very tempted to get one of the dolls, will share them with you if I do of course!

The Parisian Ballet Bride

Romantique
Audrey-Hepburn-Funny-Face-Wedding-Dress

Audrey Hepburn in Funny face, wearing a Givenchy wedding dress

Most of the dresses from big wedding dress designers that I tried so far are suited to big party weddings with hundreds of guests: For my liking, there is just too much tulle, organza, chiffon, sparkle and pomp. That’s not me, I feel like having to attend a fancy dress party in a white dress.

The 50s Ballet wedding dress trend is feminine and elegant and at the same time not as opulent as the bigger wedding dresses, perfect for a destination wedding or a smaller scale wedding.

Here’s a selection of my favourite style icons, dresses and accessorises I came across during my research.

Spring Trend Brocade SS2013

Brocade Spring 2013

Brocade Spring 2013

I’m so happy that last year’s brocade trend, initiated by Dolce and Gabbana who drew their inspirations from Sicily’s baroque, religious traditions, is still very much present for Spring Summer 2013. Only this time, brocade comes  in light, pastel colours, making the fabric lighter and more wearable for the daytime than darker colours which appear much more opulent.
