Easter decoration ideas

Decor/ Romantique

Easter time is spring time and the anticipation if a long warm summer!  Coming from Germany, I love decorating the flat with bunny and egg ornaments.

When I was a child, we used to blow out eggs through a needle and then painted the hollow egg to hang them on branches (e.g. Pussy willow). Another tradition is to hard boil eggs and dip dye them to lay them in a woven Easter basket.

So where does the Easter rabbit come from? Contrary to what you might think, it is not a modern (or some of you might say American) invention!

The bunny as an Easter symbol has it’s origins in Germany, where it was first mentioned in German writings in the 1500s. The first edible Easter bunnies were made in Germany during the early 1800s. German emigrants brought the symbol of the Easter rabbit to America in the 1700s.

What would Easter be without the iconic Lindt Easter bunny? Decorative and yummy!

Alexander McQueen in Hamburg

Alexander McQueen. Inspirations

23. Dezember 2011 – 6. Mai 2012

Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg

“Clothes and jewellery should be startling, individual. When you see a woman in my clothes, you want to know more about them. To me, that is what distinguishes good designers from bad designers.”

Alexander McQueen

“I think the idea of mixing luxury and mass-market fashion is very modern – wearing head-to-toe designer has become a bit passe. It’s a new era in fashion – there are no rules. It’s all about the individual and personal style, wearing high-end, low-end, classic labels, and up-and-coming designers all together.” Alexander McQueen

Love Phoebe Philo – she is the best!

Icons/ Rebel

I wear Celine.

Quotes by Phoebe Philo creative director of Celine:

“Historically, the bits of Celine I knew from researching, generally over the years, were typically Parisian a pleated skirt, a silk blouse and a blazer. And I quite like the conservativeness of that, that Parisian chic, that conservative woman. Bourgeois. A bit saucy.”

“It’s never been important to me that my name is above shop windows,” she says, “and I get a lot of comfort out of having something I can stand behind. Let Celine be the name and the front of it…”

“Shall we have a fag?”

Wenn mir ein dickes Fashion Budget zur Verfügung stehen würde, dann wäre ich ganz sicher Chloé süchtig. Chloé  ist eine echte Lifestyle Marke, die chic, sexy, aber nicht lächerlich ist.

Do chunky knits like Claudia

Jumpers/ Romantique/ Wardrobe
Chunky knits are cosy and warm and ideal companions between transitions of seasons like in spring or autumn as you can mix them effortlessly with lighter materials. However, they are not easy to style.
Our girl Claudia Schiffer shows us how to do effortless chic with chunky knits:
Layer chunky knits over delicate materials such as silk. Especially cute over dresses teamed with a skirt and millefleur blouses.
Chunky knits can appear voluminous – compensate with Skinny Jeans and Boots like Claudia and don’t forget a belt to define the waist.

Accessorize wisely: Chunky knits are a bold statement – so keep accessoires to a minimum like Claudia with a silk scarf in the same colour rang as the rest of her outfit.

Mix n Match: I’m wearing a scarf / poncho from Italian knit expert Stefanel over my leather jacket. Tweed skirt from Stefanel. leather jacket from Massimo Dutti.

The Power of eyebrows

Beauty/ Romantique
Julia Roitfeld, daugther of Carine Roitfeld who was up until last year chief editor of  French Vogue,  is one of those French girls who looks effortlessly beautiful “au naturelle”. She’s 32 and doesn’t look a day older than 25! What’s her secret? In an interview she revealed that when she was younger, her mum never allowed her to pluck her eyebrows. Nowadays, Julia is glad that her mum steered her in the right direction and is proud of her full eyebrows. To define them, she uses a used mascara to brush them!Indeed, eyebrows that are too thinly shaped,  can make you look ten years older, just look at the below picture of Keira Knightly!
In her book, “Express Makeup”, L’oreal make-up artist Rae Morris showcases the most common eyebrow disasters and  the ideal eyebrow shape  to make you look younger:
Eyebrow disaster #1: The Thin and rounded shape (Pamela Anderson above):
This is the most common of mistakes and instantly adds years to your appearance as the space between lashline and eyebrow is very large, giving the eyes a droopy and puffy look. Go for a straight eyebrow and  a thicker brow.
Eyebrow disaster #2: The surprised, overarched eyebrow (above).
Not only does this make you constantly annoyed, but the downhill slate at the end of the brow creates a saggy, puffy eyelid.
How to achieve the perfect brow:
  • The brow should be shaped straight and cut through the brow bone for a youthful face that lift the eyes.
  • The brow starting point: Set the gap between your brows to match your desired nose bridge width.
  • The brow arch point should be in line with the outer edge of your iris.

What to do when you over plucked your eyebrows?

This happened to me recently when I had mine threaded. It is very annoying as you have to be patient until the brows are fully grown back. The new hair grows back all over the place and you have to resist the urge to pluck again!
Apparently products like Rogane (yes, the hair growth serum for bald men) or eyelash serum makes the eyebrows grow back quicker.
In the meantime, fill in the hair with a pencil or powder.

My ideal eyebrows: Straight, cutting through the eyebrow bone.  Will take me a good few weeks of patience to get back to that! My tip when you go threading or reshaping your eyebrows: To prevent surprises take a picture of a celebrity who has the desired eyebrow outcome that you are looking for.

Key-looks Prada fall-winter 2012/2013

Rebel

Is Sweet Unsexy?

Current Affairs/ Romantique/ Wardrobe

Britain’s fashion magazine aficionados are debating the wearability of the sweet, innocent, butter-wouldn’t-melt look of this spring / summer season.

Their contention seems to be that too many pastel colours, pleats, ruffles, and prom dresses apparently turn grown women into girls again and this would lead to us women “not getting laid”.

Is this what it is all about now? Getting laid? You can be sexy without wearing leather and bondage outfits, showing bulging cleavage and naked legs as shown in the fashion shows autumn / winter 2011 before designers turned to the innocent look.

We ARE females,  there’s no point in denying it and shunning lace, broderie anglaise and frills altogether! The 50s sex bombs Sophia Loren et al exuded plenty of sexiness in knee length prom dresses and accentuated waists.

Elle’s fashion designers across the channel celebrate the new fashion trend as the rebirth of seduction and the epitome of sexiness, to the contrary of their English counterparts.

So dear Elle fashion directors: Just remember, if “getting laid” is what’s it’s all about, being too obvious won’t seduce any man worth keeping!

My advice: Keep embracing the femininity  of 2012 and secure the best pieces before the fashion industry turn to bondage again!
