Inspired by the world of patisserie and the soft pastel colours of macaroons and cupcakes, fashion has never been so zesty! Here are my favourite pieces:
Above: Pin up collection from Benetton: Rich candy colours and fitted shape reminiscent of the pin-up era. Who could resist?
Woven handbags ooze class, class, class. This soft pink arm candy is from Italy, of course! Seen at Falorni.
Mint gingham shorts from Next
SS 2012. Roll on the 50s!
Lemon yellow dress “Danota” from Reiss SS 2012
Pastel colours for the eye: Bourjois new Paris Sucre collection consist of sugary pink and anis green for the eye and nails. Stay tuned for a more detailed review to follow soon!
Coral pink pleated skirt from Benetton SS 2012. As sugary sweet as a macaroon!
In London, summer has sprung on us this week with temperatures of up to 24 degrees! Time for shorts, shirts and light jackets, at last. My crochet cardigan I’m wearing above is from Next.
Crochet is not easy to wear as it can easily look hippy-ish or as if we threw on Grandma’s table cloth. I still love it as it looks so feminine and pretty if you wear it right.
Stick with classic cuts, like my boxed cardigan . I combined it with playful shorts so it’s not too boring.
A crochet sun dress with a contrasting belt always reminds me of summer as Eva Longoria proves.
This gorgeous yellow crochet dress is from Oscar de la Renta’s Spring Summer 2012 collection.
It’s rare that I find something of Rochas as these golden ballerinas. Unfortunately, not enough is showed in fashion magazines of Rochas, is likely because they do not have big advertising budgets. Rochas is definitely a ravishing brand. And if I could afford it, I would fall into a shopping frenzy of Rochas!
See my favorite Rochas outfits for summer and winter 2012:
The Rochas Summer Collection 2012
“IT was a continuation of a womanly wearable wardrobe,” said Vogue’s Alexandra Shulman– a collection which played to the sartorial strengths of a Fifties housewife. Think headscarves and swept-up beehives, fantastic cat’s eyes sunglasses and minimal A-line shapes in luxurious fabrics from waffle chiffons to satin.”
The Rochas Winter Collection 2012
“They came from Scandinavian art pottery.” At least I thank that’s how Rochas’ Marco Zanini explained the patterns – a grid of irregular, blob-centred squares and some rough diamonds – that ran through this collection.
The models wore thick-rimmed oval glasses which, together with daywear combos like pleated gold skirts over sensible blue sweaters.
Try a biker jacket to make the pleated dress / skirt look trendy and fresh as seen on Kate Moss (above) who models this current Mango season!
Wear a fitted cardigan or jumper over the pleated skirt and accessorize with a belt to emphasize the waist. I’m pairing a turquoise springy pleated skirt from Benetton with a pale pink cardigan from Stefanel and pink / red belt from Stefanel.
Cool ladylike chic: Clean crisp shirt and a classic tote handbag. Lemon yellow pleated skirt from Cos.
Straw bags are not only for the beach but are one of the 5 essential hand bag types described by Ines de la Fressagne in her style guide “Parisian chic”. This season, you can team them together with swinging 50s dresses, lace dresses, pastel colours, just about anything you feel like. Above: I’m wearing a small straw bag with a navy broderie anglaise skirt from Max & Co, espadrilles wedges and gingham shirt from Gant.
How to wear straw bags:
- In the city on the way to lunch with your friends or shopping
- In the evening for a touch of casual chic
- While travelling
Dolce & Gabbana straw bag 2012
Small straw bags look best in their natural colours or in muted colous so you can pair them with the gorgeous pastel colours of the summer.
…never dissappoints! No matter what trend other fashion retailers push, you can always rely on the classic, fresh East Coast look from GANT: Bright and pastel colours, gingham /Vichy /dots and marine stripes on Chinos, shift dresses, capri trousers and skirts!
I’m wearing a quintessential Gant blouse with pink gingham checks and puff sleeves.

Timless cut dress and bold fresh colours – synonymous with Gant’s signature look
Clogs & Mules and no nail polish? A disaster!
40s & 50s
“Darker colors like berry and navy are the new classics,” says manicurist Deborah Lippmann, who works with celebrities like Katie Holmes. Lippmann cites the influence of Mad Men and suggests filing nails into an almond shape to make the look modern, keeping them slightly longer. “It looks ultrafeminine.”
Essie Counter at DM-Drogeriemarkt
20s & 30s
Metallic accents ruled the fall runways, and now they’re popping up on nails. “It’s all about high-tech finishes this season,” says Essie Weingarten, founder and president of Essie Cosmetics, of the sparkling shades, which range from holographic shimmers to dark glitters. “Now’s the time to make a statement and have fun.” Afraid it might be too jarring? “Experiment on your toes first,” advises Weingarten.
White leather bag are city essentials this summer
One of the hottest things hitting the market when it comes to leather bags is the white leather bags.
Check out what people are carrying, what is famous amongst the celebrities. This will give you an idea about which bag suits individual personalities.

Celebs to Predict Spring’s Trends: Louise Roe
Prediction: “I think that [there will be] clashing colors, retro colors, and graphic prints and stripes.”
Accuracy: From Vera Wang to DKNY, there was no end to the bright, crazy color combinations and patterns that appeared on the runway.
It looks like graphic prints will be back in full force come in Spring.
