Chocolate Berry Make-up Look

Beauty/ Romantique

Recently I’ve been surfing the web for good make-up tuturials to get some new inspiration. I love make-up artist Lisa Eldrige’s clean, minmalistic step-by-step guides to various looks.

One of her famous looks she created for a spread in Glamour was the Chocolate Berry Look (above see a photo of the original look from the magazine).

A warm, healthy glowing, look created with berry, plum and chocolate tones, all warm colours to give our lifeless January skin some glow. The shades of the  look are so flattering, they suit all skintypes and eye colours, in particular make blue eyes pop.

I have re-created the look in softer, less dramatic tones than in the above picture  for a natural day look.

1. I’m still slightly tanned from Australia but for everyone with pale skin, use a tinted moisturizer a tone darker than your own skintone to get a healthy glow (Lisa Eldrige used Dior’s Hydralife).

2. Sculpt your skin with matte bronzing powder. I used Guerlain’s 4 seasons bronzing powder and Bourjois Delice de Poudre.

3. Next, use the lightest shade of Chanel’s eyeshadow quad in Kaska Beige all over the eyelid

4. Add another layer of the golden-brown colour in the quad and blend it up to the brow bone.

I would like to add here that Jackie Kennedy Onassis stylist used to blend her eyeshadow up to her brow bone too!

5. I used a gorgeous shimmery brown eyeshadow with red flecks of gold over my lid and blended it up to the brow bone again (copper cocoa, Bobbi Brown).

6. Eyeliner: Bobbi Brown’s gel eyeliner are amazing as you get them in so many shades. “Chocolate Shimmer” is perfect for this look, a warm, reddy brown infused with gold flecks. I used this along my upper and lower lashline.

7. Lips: I kept my lips natural with a light pink gloss.

Spoilt for choice

Bags/ Romantique

Woven leather handbags are made with artisian skills and always look classy, adding that little bit of extra to your outfit.

So it was like xmas and my birthday all rolled into one when I saw all those woven Falorni bags in all these lovely colours! It was difficult to decide for which one to go: Antique red, tan, classic black or chocolate brown. I decided to go for chocolate brown to go with the pastels of the upcoming summer! Which colour would yo uhave chosen?

My first Acne…

Denim/ Rebel/ Wardrobe

…JEANS.

“I’ve been cheating on fashion with furniture.” (SATC 2)

Decor/ Love & Relationship/ Rebel

Decorum in a Kardashian world

Current Affairs/ Romantique

Swinging A-line dresses and nipped-in waists, pencil skirts, floral pattern and Vichy checks teamed with pastel make-up – Fashion’s 50ies / 60ies inspired summer 2012 is an ode to femininity .

This trend resonates with so many women as it eminates decorum and understated, elegant sex appeal in a Kardashian world.

Make a bold statement and differentiate yourself from the obvious Kardashian style with glamourous 50ies dresses, fitted pencil skirts and big prints as seen at Dolce & Gabbana.

Louis Vuitton’s new collection in petit four colours ranging from baby pink to pistachio and yellow in delicate materials such as lace and broderie anglaise will wake up your inner Princess.

BANG cleaning and beauty

Beauty/ Rebel

“Benutzen Sie BANG?”

Marc Jacobs:

Helena’s nails

Beauty/ Romantique

Helena Christensen sported a colourful manicure during Donatella Versace’s fashion show back in November last year.

Think all colours of the rainbow and pair this manicure with a racy LBD!

 My recommendations:

  •  Rimmel’s “Peppermint “ – a refreshing pastel mint
  •  YSL’s “Fuchsia pink” – pink hot classic
  •  Chanel’s “Black Pearl” – black with a shimmering twist
  •  OPI’s “Need sunglasses” – a sunny, warm yellow
  •  Essie’s “Orange it’s obvious” – fiery and spicy

Window shopping in Timmendorf

Accessoires/ Rebel

Get your hair oomph back!

Beauty/ Romantique

I only wash my hair with silicone, paraben and fragrance free shampoo and conditioner from Schwarzkopf’s professional salon range “Natural Essensity”

What is silicone and why is it bad for our hair?

Silicone is what gives your hair that slick, smooth, tangle-free look. Silicon is very cheap for companies to use, hence you will find it in almost every hair product (look out for ingredients ending in “-cone”), especially in two-in-one shampoos and conditioners/treatments.

Silicone only coats the hair, it doesn’t penetrate it and you can’t wash it out, which means it just keeps building up. The consequence is weighed down hair that lacks volume and ultimately becomes “immune” to silicone. Hair treatments like deep oil or dye cannot penetrate the hair as it is sealed by silicone.

Solution:

You can get silicone out of your hair with “peeling shampoos” or try this organic alternative: Beat an egg white stiff and mix it with a few squirts of lemon – leave in for 15 minutes and rinse. Bear in mind that this process strains the hair so make sure to pamper it with a silicone free treatment afterwards.

A few more silicone-free alternatives are Dr Hauschka, Dove, Nivea, Sante or Lavera.
